Beginning Thursday, August 10, through Thursday, August 17, from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, Markham Contracting, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) will install new water lines along the west side of Stone Avenue, just south of Grant Road.
Southbound Stone Avenue will be reduced to one travel lane both north and south of Grant Road. All turn movements at the intersection of Stone Avenue and Grant Road will be permitted. Sahuaro Street will be temporarily closed at Stone Avenue during the work. For the safety of the traveling public, the travel lane restrictions will be in place 24 hours a day.
The traveling public can expect delays in these work zones. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.
Work to widen Grant Road from Stone Avenue to Park Avenue began in March. The improvements include six vehicular travel lanes, protected bike/pedestrian street crossings, drainage improvements, indirect left turns at Stone Avenue and First Avenue, bike lanes and sidewalks, bus pullouts and bus shelters, and public art. For more information, please visit www.grantroad.info or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The project is part of the $2.1 billion Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) Plan, which will be implemented through 2026. The multimodal plan, nearly halfway through implementation, includes roadway, safety, transit, environmental and economic vitality improvements. This project is managed by the City of Tucson.
