Grant Road Improvement Project Phase II Stone to Park - Water Line/Sewer Manhole Work

Traffic on First Avenue, north of Grant Road will be shifted to allow work crews to install a new underground water line across First Avenue. The work will begin on Monday, December 11, 2017 and is scheduled to be complete by Wednesday, December 20, 2017. Work hours will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Work will not take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, December 15 through December 17. During the work, northbound First Avenue will be reduced to one travel lane and southbound travel will continue to have two travel lanes.

Also, Fontana Avenue north of Grant Road will be closed to travel on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 and Thursday, December 14, 2017, so that work crews can construct a new sewer manhole on Fontana Avenue. Sixth Avenue south of Grant Road will not be affected by this work.

Work to widen Grant Road from Stone Avenue to Park Avenue began in March. The improvements include six vehicular travel lanes, protected bike/pedestrian street crossings, drainage improvements, indirect left turns at Stone Avenue and First Avenue, bike lanes and sidewalks, bus pullouts and bus shelters, and public art. For more information, please visit www.grantroad.info or email information@grantroad.info.

The speed limit in the construction zone has been reduced to 25 mph and motorists can expect delays while traveling through the work zone. Please be cautious of equipment and construction personnel in the work areas. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.

The project is part of the $2.1 billion Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) Plan, which will be implemented through 2026. The multimodal plan, nearly halfway through implementation, includes roadway, safety, transit, environmental and economic vitality improvements. This project is managed by the City of Tucson.
