Grant Road Repaving - Santa Rita Avenue to Columbus Boulevard

On Thursday, April 2, 2015, Granite Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin repaving Grant Road from Santa Rita Avenue to Columbus Boulevard. Crews will begin the project by milling (removing asphalt) eastbound Grant Road working from Santa Rita Avenue to Columbus Boulevard. Once work crews reach Columbus Boulevard, they will begin milling westbound Grant Road from Columbus Boulevard to Santa Rita Avenue. This eastbound/ westbound milling and paving pattern will be in place until the project is complete, which is scheduled to be on Thursday, April 23, 2015.

Work will take place Monday through Friday. Eastbound work hours will be 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and westbound work hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. During the milling and paving operations there will be at least one travel lane maintained in each direction.

This project will utilize a Hot-In-Place Paving Train to mill, rejuvenate asphalt and repave the roadway. The Paving Train is approximately 150-feet-long and will temporarily close north/south streets and driveways that intersect Grant Road. When the Paving Train is at an intersection or driveway, the closure could be up to 30 minutes long. Tucson Police officers will be assisting with traffic control.

Once the milling and paving operations are complete, crews will raise manhole covers and water main covers flush with the new asphalt. The utility adjustments are scheduled to be complete by Friday, May 15, 2015.

The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or equipment malfunction. The traveling public can expect delays when driving, bicycling and walking in the work area.  Please obey all traffic control signs and watch for construction personnel and equipment in the work zone.
