On Monday, October 20, 2014, crews from Borderland Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin the final paving at the Houghton Road and Broadway intersection. The final paving work is scheduled to be complete by Friday, October 24, 2014. Work hours will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
During the work, traffic will be shifted through the intersection to allow for paving operations and for access to local businesses. At least one lane of travel in all four directions will be maintained during the paving work. Tucson Police officers will be providing point control at the intersection to direct traffic.
Following the paving work, crews will temporary stripe the intersection. This work will take place Friday, October 24, 2014 and Saturday, October 25, 2014, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., both nights. Permanent striping is scheduled to take place in late November.
The traveling public can expect delays when driving, bicycling or walking in this work area. Please obey all traffic control signs and watch for construction personnel and equipment in the work zone.
Also on Saturday, October 25, 2014, the project team and area businesses will be holding a Block Party to celebrate the completion of the Houghton Road/Broadway Intersection Improvement Project. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. near the intersection. There will be drawings, raffles, free food and free prizes, with local businesses offering big discounts. Please see attached flyer for more information.
