CONSTRUCTION OF NEW ROADWAY SCHEDULED TO BEGIN
The City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) and the Tucson-based Ashton Co., are pleased to announce the start of work to extend Sabino Canyon Road south of Tanque Verde Road to Kolb Road.
On Monday, December 14, 2015, crews will begin minor construction activities along the entire length of the project. The new four-lane roadway with bike lanes and sidewalks, will extend Sabino Canyon Road south from its intersection with Tanque Verde Road approximately one half mile and connect to Kolb Road just north of Speedway Boulevard. A new signalized intersection will be constructed at Kolb Road, as well as a new bridge over the Pantano Wash. A new signalized intersection will also be built at the west entrance to Udall Park off of Sabino Canyon Road.
The project will also include drainage improvements, native landscaping, public art and multi-use paths.
Winter work hours for the project will be 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Major construction is scheduled to begin in mid-January 2016. The project is scheduled to be complete by the end of February 2017. Access to area businesses and residences will be available at all times throughout the course of the project with the exception of temporary delays during grading, demolition work and paving.

The project is part of the $2.1 billion RTA plan, which will be implemented through 2026. The multimodal plan, nearly halfway through implementation, includes roadway, safety, transit, environmental and economic vitality improvements. This project is managed by the City of Tucson.
