On Monday, January 25, 2016, Contractor’s West, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin installing Optical Vehicle Detection (OVD) cameras at 12 various signalized intersections within the City of Tucson.  Work hours will be 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The traveling public can anticipate lane restrictions between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

From January 25 to February 4, 2016, OVD cameras will be installed at the following intersections:

            44th Street and 16th Avenue

            Ajo Way and Sixth Avenue

Speedway Boulevard and Country Club Road

            Grant Road and Mountain Avenue

            Limberlost Road and Oracle Road

St. Mary’s Road and Anklam Road

Valencia Road and Santa Clara Avenue

Los Reales Road and Nogales Highway

From February 22 to February 25, 2016, OVD cameras will be installed at the following intersections:

            Silverlake Road and Mission Road

            Ajo Way and 12th Avenue

            Pima Street and Rosemont Boulevard

            Grant Road and Rosemont Boulevard

OVD cameras are used to detect the presence of vehicles at an intersection in order to provide the best distribution of green time based on traffic demand. The OVD cameras are not focused on the driver, but instead on the vehicle as it moves towards the intersection. There is no constant surveillance or archiving of images. The resolution of the image by these cameras is not good enough to read license plates or distinguish any facial features.
