Silverbell Road - Goret Road to Grant Road

TRAVEL LANE RESTRICTIONS

UPDATE

On Tuesday, March 1, 2016, eastbound and westbound travel on Grant Road/Ironwood Hill Drive at Silverbell Road will be reduced to one through lane in each direction and one dedicated right turn lane and one dedicated left turn lane. The restrictions will be in place for approximately two weeks to allow work crews with Hunter Contracting, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), to construct new concrete medians at the intersection.

This work is part of the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) Silverbell Road Widening Project from Grant Road to Goret Road. The project began in July 2015 and is anticipated to be complete in November 2016.

Improvements include widening Silverbell Road between Goret Road and Grant Road to a curbed, four-lane divided roadway (2 lanes in each direction), a raised median island, bike lanes, a sidewalk on the west side of Silverbell Road, a multi-use path on the east side of Silverbell Road, drainage crossing improvements, LED street lighting, traffic signal improvements at the Grant and Goret intersections, bus stop improvements, native landscape, retaining walls at the large slopes, and public art. Access to businesses and local residences will be available at all times throughout the course of the project with the exception of temporary delays during paving, grading, and demolition work. This is the first of two phases of the Silverbell Road widening project.

The construction cost of the project is $9.58 million and was made possible by the voter-approved $2.1 billion RTA Plan that will be implemented through 2026. The multimodal plan, nearly halfway through implementation, includes roadway, safety, transit, environmental and economic vitality improvements.
