Silverbell Road - Goret Road to Grant Road Widening Project

On Wednesday, July 1, 2015, crews from Hunter Construction Company, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), began work to widen and reconstruct Silverbell Road from Goret Road to Grant Road, a project funded through the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) and regional dollars. Work hours will be 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday with occasional weekend and night work. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction for the duration of the project. The project is anticipated to be complete in September, 2016.

Improvements include widening Silverbell Road between Goret Road and Grant Road to a curbed, four-lane divided roadway (2 lanes in each direction), a raised median island, bike lanes, a sidewalk on the west side of Silverbell Road, a multi-use path on the east side of Silverbell Road, drainage crossing improvements, LED street lighting, traffic signal improvements at the Grant and Goret intersections, bus stop improvements, native landscape, retaining walls at the large slopes, and public art. Access to businesses and local residences will be available at all times throughout the course of the project with the exception of temporary delays during paving, grading, and demolition work. This is the first of two phases of the Silverbell Road widening project.

The construction cost of the project is $9.58 million and was made possible by the voter-approved $2.1 billion Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) Plan that will be implemented through 2026. The multimodal plan, nearly halfway through implementation, includes roadway, safety, transit, environmental and economic vitality improvements.
