On Tuesday, February 3, 2015, crews from Southern Arizona Paving and Construction Co., under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation, will begin backfilling open trenches on travel lanes at the Sixth Avenue and Toole Avenue intersection. This work will require travel lane restrictions at various legs of the intersection. This work will take place from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night through Thursday, February 5, 2015.
The above work is part of a project to finalize the two-way conversion of Sixth Avenue from Seventh Street to Broadway. The work includes new traffic signals, sidewalks and ADA accessible ramps at the intersections of Sixth Avenue and Toole Avenue, and Sixth Avenue and Pennington Street, new pavement, new striping and new signage along Sixth Avenue from Toole Avenue to Broadway. The project is being funded by the Federal Transit Administration.
Crews are working Monday through Thursday, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. to minimize the impact to the traveling public. Construction is scheduled to be complete in late March 2015. Temporary travel lane restrictions and intersection closures may be in place during the work.
Access to adjacent businesses and the Ronstadt Transit Center will be maintained throughout the project.
The traveling public can expect delays when driving, bicycling and walking in the work area. Please obey all traffic control signs and watch for construction personnel and equipment in the work zone.
