Travel lane restrictions will be in place at the Speedway Boulevard and Stone Avenue intersection to allow crews from KE&G Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), to raise manhole covers and water valve covers flush with the new asphalt and to install survey monuments in the intersection.
The restrictions will be in place from approximately 7 a.m. on Monday, March 6, 2017 until about 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. Left turns and right turns at the intersection will not be affected during this work.
Once the covers and monuments are installed, concrete rings around the utilities must cure for 24 hours before removing the travel lane restrictions.
This work is part of the Stone Avenue – Drachman Street to First Street Roadway Improvement Project that began in June 2016. Improvements include new underground water lines and landscape irrigation, as well as a new underground drainage structure at Stone Avenue and Mabel Street. The project will also include new median islands, curbs, sidewalks with curb access ramps, driveways, street lighting, traffic signals, bus pullouts and a new asphalt roadway. The project is scheduled to be complete in April 2017.
The traveling public can expect delays when driving, bicycling or walking in this work area. Please obey all traffic control signs and watch for construction personnel and equipment in the work zone.
The construction cost of the project is $2.5 million and was made possible by the voter-approved $2.1 billion Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) Plan that will be implemented through 2026. The multimodal plan, nearly halfway through implementation, includes roadway, safety, transit, environmental and economic vitality improvements.
