CENTURYLINK UTILITY RELOCATION WORK
FOR DOWNTOWN LINKS PHASE III PROJECT
As part of the City of Tucson Department of Transportation's Downtown Links Phase III project, CenturyLink is continuing work to relocate their existing facilities located within the project limits.
On Monday, November 30, 2015, westbound Toole Avenue will be reduced to one travel lane at Sixth Avenue as crews begin work to relocate existing underground utilities. Work is scheduled to be complete in mid-February 2016. Work will take place Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with occasional weekend and night work. Travel lane restrictions will be in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Also, the east side pedestrian walkway through the Sixth Avenue Underpass will be closed during this work.
Downtown Links Phase III – Church Avenue to Broadway – is funded by the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), the City of Tucson and Pima County and is part of the voter-approved, $2.1 billion RTA plan that runs through 2026. The multimodal plan, nearly halfway through implementation, includes roadway, safety, transit, environmental and economic vitality improvements.
The Downtown Links Phase III project improvements include improved access and connections for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists, linking Barraza-Aviation Parkway and Interstate 10, and downtown with the neighborhoods to the north. The project also provides new and safer underpasses, overpasses and railroad crossings, drainage improvements, multi-use paths, improved sidewalks and bike lanes, and public art.
