On Wednesday, November 7, 2018, KE&G Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation, will install temporary asphalt on the north side Broadway from Camino Seco to Harrison Road in preparation of an upcoming traffic shift. Paving operations will take place from approximately 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
Early Monday, November 12, 2018, between midnight and 1 a.m., eastbound and westbound traffic on Broadway from Camino Seco to Harrison Road will shift to the north side of Broadway. This will allow crews to begin underground utility work on this section of Broadway. Following the traffic shift, travel will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
Crews are continuing to install new water lines on Broadway from Harrison Road to Houghton Road as part of the Broadway East Improvement project. The project improvements include widening the road to four lanes with median islands and landscaping, new water lines and storm drain systems, new sidewalks, street lights, water harvesting features and public art. The project is scheduled to be complete in January 2020.
Crews are working Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The speed limit in the construction zone has been reduced to 25 mph and motorists can expect delays while traveling through the work zone. Please be cautious of equipment and construction personnel in the work areas. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.
This project is part of the $2.1 billion Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) Plan. The RTA is a special taxing district with a mission to deliver transportation projects that improve our region’s mobility, safety and environment. District voters approved the 20-year RTA plan in 2006. To date, the RTA’s transportation project investments of over $1 billion, generated by the RTA’s half-cent excise tax, are working to support the region’s economic vitality and improve your quality of life.
