A roadway improvement project is scheduled to begin Tuesday, April 2, 2019 on Congress Street from Silverbell Road to Grande Avenue as part of the voter-approved Proposition 101 Tucson Delivers Better Streets Program.
Granite Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin the 30 day project by lowering manhole covers and water valve covers. Crews will then mill (remove) asphalt, reconstruct the dirt subgrade, install new asphalt, raise the manhole covers and water valve covers level with new asphalt.
Beginning Tuesday, April 2 to Monday, April 15, crews will work on the north side of Congress Street, with two-way traffic shifted to the south side of the roadway.
Crews will then transition to the south side of the roadway from Tuesday, April 16 to Friday, April 26, with traffic shifted to the north side of Congress Street. Congress Street at Silverbell Road will be closed to all eastbound travel during this time. Westbound travel will maintain through access to Silverbell Road.
The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.
Crews will work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day, with occasional night work. Electronic message boards will be in place to alert motorists of this upcoming work.
Business and residential access will be maintained at all times during the project, except when heavy equipment is directly in front of driveway. The traveling public can expect delays when driving in these work areas. Please obey all traffic control signs and watch for construction personnel and equipment in the work area.
Tucson Delivers Better Streets is a $100 million improvement program made possible by Tucson voters who approved a half-cent sales tax increase in May 2017. Thank you in advance for your cooperation as we work to improve the quality and safety of your City streets.
