On Friday, July 17, 2015 at 6 p.m., crews from Borderland Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will close the intersection of Houghton Road and 22nd Street. The initial plan to upgrade the water lines at the intersection called for three weeks’ worth of work that would close various travel lanes at various times. By completely closing the intersection, crews will be able to expedite the improvements and complete the work in three days rather than three weeks. The intersection is scheduled to reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2015. Electronic message boards will be in place to alert motorists of the upcoming closure.
Access to adjacent businesses will be maintained throughout the project. The traveling public can expect delays when driving, bicycling and walking in the work area. Please obey all traffic control signs and watch for construction personnel and equipment in the work zone.
This project was made possible by the voter-approved $2.1 billion Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) Plan that will be implemented through 2026. The multimodal plan, nearly halfway through implementation, includes roadway, safety, transit, environmental and economic vitality improvements.
