On Tuesday, February 6, 2018 and on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 crews will modify traffic signals at the Speedway Boulevard and Campbell Avenue intersection. Work hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. During the work, the traffic signals will not be in operation and Tucson Police officers will direct travel at the intersection.
The work will involve the installation of new traffic signal heads to implement protected left turn phasing (left turn on green arrow only) in all four directions at the intersection. On Tuesday, crews will change the traffic signal heads on Speedway Boulevard and on Wednesday crews will change the traffic signal heads on Campbell Avenue.
Upon the completion of the traffic signal conversion, Tucson Department of Transportation staff will monitor traffic flow at the intersection and modify the traffic signal timing as necessary. Later this Spring, Dr. Yao-Jan Wu from the University of Arizona College of Civil Engineering will collect traffic flow data at the intersection and compare that information with the data collected last fall.
The traveling public can expect delays when driving in this work area. Please obey all traffic control signs and watch for construction personnel and Tucson police officers in the area.
