On Sunday, March 31, 2019, the reconstruction and repaving of Speedway Boulevard from Greasewood Road to Painted Hills Road is set to begin. This project is part of the voter-approved Proposition 101 Tucson Delivers Better Streets Program.
Granite Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin the two-month improvement project with crews prepping the roadway for a traffic shift that will occur around 2 a.m. on Monday, April 1. Crews will then lower manhole covers and water valve covers, mill (remove) asphalt, reconstruct the dirt subgrade, install new asphalt and raise the manhole covers and water valve covers flush with the new asphalt.
Crews will work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day, with occasional night work. Electronic message boards will be in place to alert motorists of this upcoming work.
The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.
Business and residential access will be maintained at all times during the project, except when heavy equipment is directly in front of driveways. The traveling public can expect delays when driving in these work areas. Please obey all traffic control signs and watch for construction personnel and equipment in the work area.
Tucson Delivers Better Streets is a $100 million improvement program made possible by Tucson voters who approved a half-cent sales tax increase in May 2017. Thank you in advance for your cooperation as we work to improve the quality and safety of your City streets.
