With the base paving complete on the north side of Valencia Road west of Kolb Road, and the final paving complete on Valencia Road east of Kolb Road, as well as additional work taking place on the new southeast ramp, travel on Valencia Road will shift on Tuesday, June 11, 2019.
Since Valencia Road will now reopen east of of Kolb Road, motorists will no longer travel through the intersection to the southeast ramp to travel eastbound on Valencia Road. Left turns from southbound Kolb Road to eastbound Valencia Road at the intersection will now be allowed. This traffic shift will be in place until the project is complete in late July 2019.
Motorists traveling on Valencia Road both east and west of Kolb Road will shift to their respective travel lanes – westbound travel on the north side of Valencia Road and eastbound travel on the south side of Valencia Road. Travel will continue to be restricted to one lane in each direction.
Improvements to Valencia Road, including the intersection with Kolb Road, will increase roadway capacity and enhance safety along the corridor. The project will the widen Valencia Road, roughly one mile east and west of Kolb Road to six lanes. The project includes new bike lanes, sidewalks, drainage structures, lighting, traffic signals and landscaping.
The Regional Transportation Authority is a state-established political subdivision within Pima County that collects a half-cent excise tax from the RTA's special taxing district. The tax funds the RTA's 20-year regional transportation plan, which voters in the district approved in May 2006 along with the excise tax. To date, the RTA has invested over $1 billion in the region to deliver transportation projects and services that improve our region's mobility, safety, economic vitality and quality of life. This project is managed by the City of Tucson. Please visit www.RTAmobility.com for more information.
