Grant Road Improvement Project Phase II Stone to Park - Grant Road and Sixth Avenue Intersection Work

On Tuesday, April 18, 2017 and Wednesday, April 19, 2017, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day, Markham Contracting, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation, will install temporary traffic signal wires and remove existing traffic signal poles at the Grant Road and Sixth Avenue intersection. The work will take place in the eastbound and westbound Grant Road left turn lanes at the intersection. During the work, the traveling public can expect the following:

City of Tucson Seeks Public Input on ADA Transition Plan with Website and Online Survey

The City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) has been working on an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Inventory and Transition Plan since 2014, collecting data on the existing condition of Tucson streets and sidewalks relative to ADA compliance based on proposed ADA standards from 2011. TDOT is also developing a priority ranking system. The public is being asked to rank locations as well as indicate concerns at existing locations.

Northbound Alvernon Way/Golf Links Road Overhead Sign Replacement

On Saturday, April 8, 2017, beginning at 3 a.m., travel lane restrictions will be in place on northbound Alvernon Way/Golf Links Road to allow crews from the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) Streets and Traffic Maintenance Division to remove and replace overhead directional signage. The work is scheduled to be complete in about 10 hours.

At least one lane of travel will remain open during the work. The traveling public can expect delays when driving in this work zone. Please obey all traffic control signs and watch for work crews in the area.

 

 

Sixth Street - Country Club Road to Euclid Avenue Crack Seal Project

Crews from the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) Streets and Traffic Maintenance Division will conduct crack seal work on Sixth Street from Country Club Road to Euclid Avenue. This work will begin on Monday, April 10, 2017 and is scheduled to be complete by Friday, April 14, 2017. Work hours will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.

Travel lane restrictions will be in place during this work. The traveling public can expect delays when driving in this work zone. Please obey all traffic control signs and watch for work crews in the area.

 

Grant Road Improvement Project Phase II Stone to Park - Grant Road and First/Euclid Avenue Intersection Work

Crews from Markham Contracting, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation, will install underground electrical lines at the Grant Road and First/Euclid Avenue intersection beginning Monday,  April 3, 2017.  Crews are scheduled to work from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night through Friday, April 7, 2017.

Cyclovia Tucson - Travel Information

Living Streets Alliance (LSA) will present Cyclovia Tucson, Tucson’s biannual “open streets” event on Sunday, April 2, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cyclovia Tucson attracts tens of thousands of people to enjoy 2.5 miles of car-free city streets for one day. During a five-hour period, participants are invited to walk, bike, dance, explore, discover and play along the route. The event is free and open to the public, and there is no official start or finish.

Grant Road Phase II - Kickoff Event

Join the City of Tucson and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) as work begins on Phase 2 of the Grant Road Improvements on Friday, March 24, 2017, at 10 a.m. on the south side of Grant Road between First Avenue and Park Avenue.

Speakers will include Tucson Mayor and RTA Board Member Jonathan Rothschild; RTA Board Chair and Sahuarita Mayor Tom Murphy; Tucson City Manager Mike Ortega; Mike Markham, Vice President/COO of Markham Contracting; and members of the Grant Road Citizens Task Force.

Grant Road Improvement Project Phase II - Stone Avenue to Park Avenue

Work to widen Grant Road from Stone Avenue to Park Avenue commenced today with the majority of work taking place on the south side of Grant Road outside of current travel lanes. Markham Contracting, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), began removing and salvaging landscape material, excavating, relocating/installing utilities, and completing investigative potholing. This work will take several weeks to complete.

Road Recovery Bond Program - Valencia Road - 12th Avenue to Campbell Avenue Roadway Reconstruction Project

Crews from Southern Arizona Paving and Construction Co, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), are beginning roadway improvements on Valencia Road from 12th Avenue east to Campbell Avenue. This roadway reconstruction project is associated with the voter-approved $100 million, five-year street bond program – Road Recovery.

Airmen Memorial Bridge Re-Dedication Ceremony

Two new plaques honoring the 18 airmen who died following a mid-air collision of two B-24 Liberator Bombers during a training mission over the Pantano Wash on November 30, 1944, will be unveiled on Friday, March 17, 2017. The new plaques were designed and donated by some of the surviving family members of the 18 airmen.

City Council Member Paul Cunningham, the Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) and about 25 surviving family members from across the country will take part in the re-dedication ceremony.

The work is scheduled to be complete in about 10 hours.

Speedway/Stone Intersection Travel Lane Restrictions - Utility Adjustments

Travel lane restrictions will be in place at the Speedway Boulevard and Stone Avenue intersection to allow crews from KE&G Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), to raise manhole covers and water valve covers flush with the new asphalt and to install survey monuments in the intersection.

The restrictions will be in place from approximately 7 a.m. on Monday, March 6, 2017 until about 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. Left turns and right turns at the intersection will not be affected during this work.

92nd Annual Tucson Rodeo Parade - Travel Information

On Thursday, February 23, 2017, Tucson will host the 92nd Annual Tucson Rodeo Parade.  The Parade begins at 9 a.m. at Ajo Way, ½ mile west of Park Avenue, going east to Park Avenue, traveling south on Park Avenue to Irvington Road, then turning west on Irvington Road and ending at the Rodeo Grounds on  Sixth Avenue.
