Celebrate the Completion of Silverbell Rd. - Goret Rd. to Grant Rd. Improvements

Join the City of Tucson and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) in celebrating the completion of the Silverbell Road – Goret Road to Grant Road Improvement Project – at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 14, 2017. The celebration and a ribbon cutting will take place at the northeast corner of Goret Road and Silverbell Road.

Speakers will include Tucson Mayor and RTA Board member Jonathan Rothschild; Vice Mayor Regina Romero; Pima County Supervisor Richard Elías; Chuck English, Vice President of Hunter Contracting; and public artist Kevin Berry.

Stone Avenue - Drachman Street to First Street Roadway Improvement Project - Stone Avenue Closure - Final Paving

On Tuesday, February 14, 2017, both northbound and southbound travel on Stone Avenue at Speedway Boulevard will be prohibited to allow crews from KE&G Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), to complete the final paving at the intersection. The Stone Avenue closure will be in place from approximately 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Traffic Signals/Street Lights Out of Service - Broadway/Wilmot Road Intersection

Traffic signals and street lights will be out of service at the Broadway and Wilmot Road intersection from approximately 9 p.m. tonight through 2 a.m. Saturday. Crews from the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) Streets and Traffic Maintenance Division will replace a malfunctioning traffic signal controller box at intersection.

Tucson Police officers will direct travel at the intersection during the traffic signal outage. The traveling public can expect delays when driving in this. Please obey all traffic control signs and watch for police officers in the area.

Stone Avenue - Drachman Street to First Street Roadway Improvement Project - Drachman Street Closure East of Stone Avenue

Crews from KE&G Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin work to reconstruct Drachman Street east of Stone Avenue. This work will require the contractor to close Drachman Street from Stone Avenue east to Seventh Avenue. The closure will begin on Monday, February 6, 2017 at about 3 a.m. The reconstruction of this section of Drachman Street is scheduled to be complete and reopened to travel by Monday, February 27, 2017. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.

Road Recovery Bond Program - 12th Avenue - 44th Street to Santa Paula Street Roadway Reconstruction Project

In preparation for an upcoming reconstruction project on 12th Avenue from 44th Street to Santa Paula Street, work crews are conducting underground electrical work at the 12th Avenue and Nebraska Street intersection. To place electrical conduit at the intersection, crews will cut a trench across Nebraska Street on both the east side and west side of 12th Avenue. For the safety of the traveling public, Nebraska Street will be closed to travel at 12th Avenue.

Columbus Wash Drainage Improvements - Belvedere Avenue at Pima Street Closure

On Wednesday, January 25, 2017, crews from Clear Contracting, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin work to install a large underground drainage box culvert in Belvedere Avenue at Lester Street. The work extends north and south on Belvedere Avenue and the work will take approximately two weeks to complete.  Belvedere Avenue will be closed from just north of Pima Street to just north of Lester Street. Residents on Lester Street, east of Belvedere Avenue, can access northbound Belvedere Avenue only.

Road Recovery Bond Program - Valencia Road - Alvernon Way to Campbell Avenue Reconstruction Start Date Rescheduled

With rain in the forecast Sunday night and Monday, crews from Southern Arizona Paving and Construction Co, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), have rescheduled the start of the reconstruction of Valencia Road from Alvernon Way to just west of Campbell Avenue to 8 p.m. on Monday, January 23, 2017.

Paving operations are now scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2017.

Road Recovery Bond Program - Valencia Road - Alvernon Way to Campbell Avenue

Crews from Southern Arizona Paving and Construction Co, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin reconstructing Valencia Road from Alvernon Way to just west of Campbell Avenue beginning Sunday, January 22, 2017. This roadway reconstruction project is associated with the voter-approved $100 million, five-year street bond program – Road Recovery.

Crews from KE&G Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin work on Helen Street east of Stone Avenue on Friday, January 20, 2017. This work will require the contractor to close Helen Street at Stone Avenue at approximately 5 a.m. The work on Helen Street is scheduled to be complete by Monday, February 6, 2017. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.

Dillinger Days - Toole Avenue / Fifth Street Closures

Dillinger Days weekend begins with the Dillinger Speakeasy at Hotel Congress on Friday, January 20, 2017, from 7 to 10 p.m. On Saturday, January 21, 2017, Toole Avenue from Congress Street to Fifth Street, and Fifth Street from Congress Street to Toole Avenue will be closed from approximately 4 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Kolb Road/Sabino Canyon Road Connection Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

 The roadway improvements to connect Sabino Canyon Road south of Tanque Verde Road to Kolb Road are finished and the public is invited to celebrate the completion of the project with a ribbon cutting ceremony and the dedication of the new Airmen Memorial Bridge over the Pantano Wash. 

Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild, Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) Chair Ed Honea, Tucson Ward 2 Council Member Paul Cunningham, Pima County District 4 Supervisor Steve Christy, and other area dignitaries will be on hand to commemorate the completion of the roadway. 

Congress Street - Bonita Avenue - Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon Installed

On Thursday, December 29, 2016, crews from the City of Tucson Department of Transportation, Streets and Traffic Maintenance Division, completed installation of a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) across Congress Street, west of Bonita Avenue.  This RRFB is the first of its kind in Tucson, although others have been in use throughout Arizona for a few years.  This solar powered device is a pedestrian warning device.  Pedestrians press a button, causing yellow lights to flash, alerting drivers to their presence.

This work will require the contractor to close Mabel Street at Stone Avenue at approximately 7 a.m. The work on Mabel Street is scheduled to be complete in several weeks. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.
