Traffic Alert - Storm Drain Maintenance - Stone Avenue Underpass Closure

The City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) Streets and Traffic Maintenance Division has scheduled a vactor contractor to clean debris and sediment from the storm drains in the Stone Avenue Underpass just north of downtown.

The maintenance work will begin at midnight on Monday, June 4, 2018. The work is scheduled to be complete by 6 a.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2018. During the work, travel lanes in the underpass will be closed to motorists. Please obey all traffic control signs.

 

Tucson Boulevard Storm Grate Replacement at Grant Road

On Monday, June 4, 2018, crews from Borderland Construction Co., under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT),  will begin reconstructing the storm drain catch basin on Tucson Boulevard just south of Grant Road. The work will also include the installation of a new storm grate. The project is scheduled to be complete in mid-July.

New Traffic Signal Installation - Mary Ann Cleveland Way and Atterbury Wash Way

On Monday, June 4, 2018, P.A.C.E. Electrical Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation, will begin work to install a new traffic signal at the Mary Ann Cleveland Way and Atterbury Wash Way intersection. Crews will work Monday through Friday, 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The project is scheduled to be complete in mid-July 2018.

Road Recovery Bond Program - Country Club Road - Fort Lowell Road to Prince Road North Repaving Project

Crews from Southern Arizona Paving and Construction Co, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin milling and paving work on Country Club Road from Fort Lowell Road to  north of Prince Road where Country Club Road ends.  This work is scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 29, 2018 through Friday, June 1, 2018. Work hours will be 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

Road Recovery Bond Program - Tanque Verde Road - Sabino Canyon Road to Kolb/Grant Roads Repaving Project

Crews from Southern Arizona Paving and Construction Co, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), are scheduled to begin lowering manhole covers and water valve covers on Tanque Verde Road from Sabino Canyon Road to Kolb/Grant roads on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, in preparation of an upcoming repaving project. The utility adjustments will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and are scheduled to be complete in one day.

Traffic Alert - Grant Road Improvement Project Phase II Stone to Park - Grant Road and First Avenue Intersection Closure

On Friday, May 18, 2018 through Sunday, May 20, 2018 the Grant Road and First Avenue intersection will be closed to travel to allow the contractor to complete base paving operations through the intersection. The closure will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 18 and is scheduled to reopen by 5 p.m. on Sunday May 20.  During this closure motorists and bicyclists can expect the following:

• All through traffic and turn movements will not be permitted at the Grant Road and First Avenue intersection

• Access to businesses and residents will be maintained

Traffic Alert - Speedway Boulevard - Additional Traffic Signal Upgrades

The left turn traffic signal upgrade at Speedway Boulevard and Main Avenue scheduled for today, May 15, 2018 has been rescheduled for Monday, May 21, 2018.  Next week, PACE Electrical Construction Inc., under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) will upgrade the traffic signals at two additional intersections on Speedway Boulevard:

Wednesday, May 23, 2018 – Country Club Road

Monday, May 14, 2018, through Thursday, May 17, 2018, PACE Electrical Construction Inc., under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) will upgrade the traffic signals at four intersections on Speedway Boulevard:

Monday, May 14, 2018 - Stone Avenue

Tuesday, May 15, 2018 – Main Avenue

Wednesday, May 16, 2018 – Euclid Avenue

Thursday, May 17, 2018 – Alvernon Way

Traffic Alert - Grant Road Improvement Project Phase II Stone to Park - Park Avenue Closed North of Grant Road

On Monday May 7, 2018, Park Avenue north of Grant Road will be closed to allow work crews to safely remove on old, abandoned water line and perform additional underground utility work at the intersection. The closure will take place from approximately 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the same day. During this time, motorists and bicyclists can expect the following:

•North and southbound through traffic will not be permitted at the intersection of Grant Road and Park Avenue

•Right turn movements will not be permitted from westbound Grant Road to northbound Park Avenue

Tucson Designated One of America's Best Places for Bikes

On Wednesday, May 2, 2018 the City of Tucson was honored with an award at the Places for Bikes Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana. Tucson was ranked fifth overall based on levels of bicycle ridership, low-stress network connectivity, bicycle safety, growth rate of bicycle infrastructure and events, and community perceptions of bikeability. Tucson had the second highest score of all large US cities as America’s Best Places for Bikes.

Downtown Traffic Alert - Church Avenue Closure South of Broadway - La Placita Overhead Pedestrian Bridge Demolition

On Friday, May 4, 2018 through Sunday, May 6, 2018, Church Avenue from Broadway to Ochoa Street will be closed so that work crews can demolish the overhead pedestrian bridge from La Placita to the La Placita Parking Garage. The closure will be in place from 7 a.m. Friday to approximately 3 p.m. Sunday.

Bicycle and pedestrian access along Church Avenue from Broadway to Ochoa Street will be prohibited during the closure.
Patrons to the Tucson Convention Center are advised to use Granada Avenue or Cushing Street.

Broadway Bicycle / Pedestrian Safety Improvement Project Sign Installation - Westbound Broadway at Euclid Avenue / Aviation Parkway Closure and Travel Lane Restrictions

On Friday, April 13, 2018, from approximately 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. the same day, westbound Broadway from Euclid Avenue to Aviation Parkway will have intermittent travel lane closures to allow crews from Southern Arizona Paving and Construction Co. to install overhead wayfinding signs on the recently installed sign structure on Broadway.

The directional sign is part of the recently completed project to construct a Two-Way Cycle Track (also known as separated/protected bike lanes) on westbound Broadway into Downtown.

Traffic Alert - Sewer Repair - Grande Avenue and Alameda Street

On Monday, April 9, 2018 Achen-Gardner Construction will begin work to repair the sewer on Alameda Street and Grande Avenue in front of the Ward 1 Council Office. Work will take place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Construction is expected to last two to three days followed by one day for pipe lining. Paving will take two days and will be scheduled for the following week. The work will be complete before the end of April.  At least one lane of traffic will be open during construction.  Flaggers will be in place to help guide motorists through the area.

Temporary Protected Bike Lane Installation - Campbell Avenue - Second Street to Enke Drive

With the closure of University Boulevard west of Campbell Avenue and a bicycle detour in place for the annual University of Arizona Spring Fling Carnival, the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) will install temporary protective bicycle delineators on southbound Campbell Avenue from Second Street to Enke Drive on Friday, April 6, 2018.
