The City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility, in conjunction with the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), is beginning the process of designing improvements to widen Valencia Road from Kolb Road to Houghton Road.
Design will start in late spring 2020 and is expected to take approximately 20 months. Improvements will extend from just east of the Kolb Road intersection to just west of the Houghton Road intersection, a distance of approximately 3.7 miles. Public input will be an important component of this project and opportunities for public comment will be provided during the design process.
Planned improvements include:
- Widening Valencia Road to six-lane roadway with median
- Upgrades to traffic signals and intersections at Old Vail Road and Nexus Road
- Drainage improvements to provide all-weather access during storms
- Improved asphalt surface
- Bicycle and ADA compliant pedestrian facilities
- Native landscaping
- Dark Sky compliant roadway lighting
- Public art
