The City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility, in conjunction with the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), is beginning the process of designing improvements to widen Valencia Road from Kolb Road to Houghton Road.
Design began in Spring 2020 and is expected to take approximately 20 months. Improvements will extend from just east of the Kolb Road intersection to just west of the Houghton Road intersection, a distance of approximately 3.7 miles. Public input will be an important component of this project and opportunities for public comment will be provided during the design process.

The Regional Transportation Authority, a political subdivision of the state and independently governed, has invested more than $1.2 billion in transportation projects and services to improve mobility, safety, economic vitality and quality of life in the region. The RTA collects a half-cent excise (sales) tax from its special taxing district within Pima County to fund its 20-year regional transportation plan. The plan and tax were approved by voters in May 2006. The Valencia Road: Kolb Road to Houghton Road improvement project is part of the RTA plan and is managed by the City of Tucson.
