Broadway: Camino Seco to Houghton project was moved up on the RTA schedule.
The Broadway widening project from Camino Seco to Houghton Road is in Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) Third Period (2017 to 2021) with plans to widen the roadway to a four-lane roadway with bicycle lanes and sidewalks.
The section of Broadway between Camino Seco and Harrison is in the poorer pavement condition of the two sections. The Ward 2 office is keenly aware of the condition of this stretch of Broadway and we have had several conversations on addressing this section.
That being said;TDOT has selected a consultant through its Professional Services process and expects to have a design team contracted by May 2015. Initial funding of $500,000 has been secured from the RTA to begin design, which is expected to take 18 to 24 months to complete. This will be followed by utility relocation and then construction.
Broadway is currently four lanes between Camino Seco and Harrison Road, with a two-lane cross section between Harrison Road and Houghton Road. The two-lane cross-section will be widened to four lanes when the project is complete. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2017 and be completed in early 2018. In the meantime, the Department's street maintenance division will provide routine maintenance along this corridor as we complete the design and move towards actual construction.
