National Dump the Pump Day

With the continued fluctuation of gas prices, everyone is looking for a way to save money. National Dump the Pump Day, on Thursday June 15, encourages people to ride public transportation (instead of driving) and save money.
Riding public transit is an economical way to save money on fuel and maintenance. The June APTA Transit Savings Report shows that a two person household that downsizes to one car can save – on the average – more than $9,700 a year.
However, public transportation doesn’t just help people save money, it also helps communities grow and prosper. For example, for every $1 invested in public transportation, $4 is returned in economic returns. Mayors know that communities with public transportation are more competitive. So, riding public transportation helps people and their communities!
“For someone who currently doesn’t ride public transportation, participating in the Dump the Pump event is a great start,” said Sun Tran General Manager, Claire Spielberg. “Riding can not only help cut transportation costs but it is also a way for people across the country to make a difference as they conserve gasoline and help our environment.”
“People can make a difference by riding public transportation and encouraging their friends and family to do so, too,” said Sun Link General Manager, Steve Bethel.
