¡Feliz Año Nuevo! I’ll be keeping this week’s “note” a bit short this week.
First off, as I posted on Facebook, work continues at Kolb and Speedway. It’s frustrating for many of you, and it’s frustrating for me as I live near that corner and my office is just up the street. However, I understand the tremendous difficulties both Tucson Water and Transportation and Mobility Staff have had to deal with (I outlined those in last week’s newsletter). I think they’ve done a tremendous job trying to both get the problem fixed and make sure that traffic will be moving again soon.
Kolb southbound approaching the intersection is now open, however, there are still restrictions on westbound Speedway and northbound Kolb. The work by Tucson Water is anticipated to be complete this weekend. DTM sent me the following schedule for what is going to happen over the next few days:
Crews are scheduled to work Saturday, Jan. 7 and Sunday, Jan. 8 to complete the water line work. This work should be completed by the end of the day on Sunday.
On Monday, Jan. 9, crews are scheduled to back fill the hole.
On Tuesday, Jan. 10 and Wednesday, Jan 11. Cement Treated Soil will be placed - this will help strengthen the subgrade prior to paving. By the end of the week, Aggregate Base (AB) will be placed.
The week of Jan. 16, paving operations will begin.
Following this schedule, additional curb work and water line work will need to be completed in the area.
The roadway is anticipated to be open by the end of January.
This schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.
I will be posting updates on my Facebook page, so please check in there over the next few days.

Coming up on January 27, we have a volunteer clean up schedule for the Robb Wash. We will be meeting near 1155 N Sarnoff at 8 am and we are scheduled to be done at 10. Sunscreen, shovels, safety vests and gloves will be provided. We are asking that you bring your own water bottle, hat, sunglasses and work gloves and that you wear long pants and sturdy shoes.
