Traffic Alert - North Rillito Interceptor Sewer Rehabilitation Project

This is a series of traffic alerts that will be issued throughout the construction of the North Rillito Interceptor (NRI) Sewer Rehabilitation Project. These alerts will announce construction, detour and street closure information as it affects residents, businesses and traffic within the area. The 10-mile long NRI project is being completed in phases; the current phase’s construction boundaries are along River Road from Longfellow Avenue to just west of Campbell Avenue.
The contractor is continuing work on the rehabilitation of sewer facilities located in the area of River Road between Longfellow Avenue and Sutton Lane. The temporary flow management piping (FMP) is installed and runs along the north side of River Road from Longfellow Avenue to Sutton Lane, north along the east side of Sutton Lane, and west on Roger Road. The FMP will remain in place until this phase of the rehabilitation is complete. The contractor is currently working on cleaning and videotaping the inside of the existing sewer pipes. The Cured in Place Pipe (CIPP) lining is scheduled to begin after the Thanksgiving holiday. Manhole rehabilitation/reconstruction will follow the CIPP lining process. Most work is scheduled from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. with the exception of the CIPP lining which cannot be stopped once it begins. Work along this stretch of roadway is scheduled to be completed by the end of December, 2015.
  • 24-hour traffic control will be in place while work is being completed.
  • Traffic along River Road, between Longfellow Avenue and Sutton Lane, will be shifted back and forth to accommodate work in the area. One travel lane in each direction will be maintained.
  • Access will be maintained to all side streets within the work area, however, there may be intermittent restrictions during some phases of work. These restrictions will be kept to a minimum.
  • Turn movements will not be restricted from most side streets along River Road.
Upcoming sewer manhole reconstruction/rehabilitation work, at the River Road/Sutton Lane intersection will require additional traffic control and restrictions. More details will be provided before construction activities at the intersection begin.
Motorists traveling through the area should expect delays. Bicyclists and pedestrians should use caution when riding/walking through the area.
