Tucson Water has received an inquiry from a customer who was contacted by telephone and asked for payment to avoid having her water service shut off. This is attempted fraud and it is regularly perpetuated upon utility customers. There is an increase in the number of these types of incidents during the holiday season.
The persons calling are falsely representing themselves as Tucson Water employees when they ask for money to keep accounts in good standing. Tucson Water does not request payment or financial information from its customers over the telephone.
Tucson Water’s policy is to provide two written notifications of account delinquency or service interruption. This is followed by an outbound automated phone call asking the delinquent account holder to contact the utility immediately to discuss payment options.
