Several downtown streets will be closed this weekend to accommodate numerous events in Downtown Tucson.

8 a.m. to 5 p.m. - Stone Avenue will be closed to vehicles from Ochoa Street to Cushing Street (14th Street)
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. – McCormick Street will be closed to vehicles from Stone Avenue to Church Avenue
8 a.m. to midnight – Scott Avenue will be closed to vehicles from McCormick Street to 14th Street
5 p.m. to midnight – Stone Avenue will be closed to vehicles from Ochoa Street to McCormick Street
Vista Del Rio Porch Fest

Vista del Rio's annual Porch Fest is this Sunday. Come down for music from local bands and enjoy a meal from our local food trucks. The event is family friendly.
Vista del Rio is on North Dos Hombres Drive, just north of the intersection of Tanque Verde and Pio Decimo. The festival starts at 4 o'clock.

Understanding the November 2015 Ballot Propositions: Vote an Informed Choice
Tucson Residents for Responsive Government is sponsoring a series of educational forums to help the public understand the process by which the Charter Changes (Props 403 & 404), Salary Recommendation (Prop 405) and Bond Proposals (Props 425-431) were placed on the November ballot and what they mean to you as a citizen and resident. Presenters will include members of the Citizen Committees who worked to get these issues on the November ballot.
National Park Service Seeks Local Volunteers for Service Projects on National Public Lands Day

Saguaro National Park and the Desert Research Learning Center are seeking volunteers to assist with a two service projects on Public Lands Day, September 26, Public Lands Day. This year, Saguaro National Park has events in both districts of the park for volunteers.
Southwest Gas work on 22nd Street

Beginning this month a contractor for Southwest Gas will begin work on a pipeline improvement project along 22nd Street between Sarnoff Drive to Gollob Road. Work is expected to take place from 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. Monday through Friday; however extended hours may be necessary as the project moves forward. Work is set to begin on the southern side of 22nd Street at Oak Park Road and move west towards Sarnoff Drive. Work is expected to be completed in November 2015.

Labor Day Collections

The City of Tucson will observe the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 7, 2015. Residential and commercial trash and recycling will not be collected on Monday. All City of Tucson residential and commercial customers will have their trash and recycling service delayed by one day. The Los Reales Landfill will be closed Monday, September 7th.

The Tucson Parks and Recreation Department wants to know how it can improve recreation and leisure opportunities for all of its users.
This July the City of Tucson Parks and Recreation department kicked off a process of information gathering that will result in a five-year master plan that anticipates future needs and outlines the actions necessary to deliver high quality recreation facilities, programs and services to the Tucson area. Public and stakeholder input are essential and critical to the success of the master plan.

City to offer tax amnesty program

The City of Tucson is offering the business community a Tax Amnesty Program. This rare opportunity will allow Tucson business owners to submit delinquent sales tax or license fees without penalty and with reduced interest due on delinquent balances. This is also an opportunity for Tucson businesses that are not licensed to get licensed, without penalty. The amnesty period will run for two months, Sept. 1, 2015 - Oct. 30, 2015.

TFD responds to swift water incident involving car swept downstream

Tucson Fire units responded to a swift water call near the intersection of S. Elizabeth Drive and W. Lincoln Street after an SUV was swept downstream and flipped over with two occupants still inside. Multiple calls were made to 9-1-1 reporting the vehicle being washed away, with some reports stating that two adults and two kids were swept away. A swift water response was immediately dispatched. The car entered a flooded wash on S.16th Avenue when it was swept downstream. The vehicle flipped over and came to a rest near S.
