Governor Brewer has ordered that flags at all State office buildings be lowered to half-staff from until sunset August 11, 2014, in honor of State Senator Chester Crandell.
Individuals, businesses and other organizations are encouraged to participate in this tribute.
Sun Tran and Teamsters sign contract extension

Sun Tran officials and representatives from Teamsters Local 104 have agreed to extend the current labor contract until 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2014, to allow negotiations to continue. Buses will run as scheduled through the contract extension date. The current contract was to expire at midnight Thursday, July 31.
“Negotiations will continue this week and we are hopeful an agreement can be reached prior to the expiration of the contract extension,” said Sun Tran General Manager Kate Riley. “The public can expect business as usual through August 6.”

I took a tour with some east side leaders of the Streetcar Maintenance Facility just off of Fourth Avenue. It was a good sneak preview for all of us. The SunLink Steetcar will be ready for passengers on July 25th.

The Lunar and Planetary Laboratory is hosting a free public open house, Everything Lunar: Celebrating the Past, Exploring the Future, on Sunday, July 20, the 45th anniversary of the Apollo Moon landing, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm in the Kuiper Space Sciences Building, 1629 E. University Blvd. (next door to Flandrau Science Center).

Dry Conditions Trigger Increased Fire Restrictions in Southeastern Arizona

Effective Thursday, June 5, the Bureau of Land Management Gila District, all districts of the Coronado National Forest, Saguaro National Park, Casa Grande Ruins National Monument, Coronado National Memorial, Chiricahua National Monument, Fort Bowie National Historic Site, Tumacácori National Historical Park, and Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument will increase campfire and smoking restrictions in southeastern Arizona, consistent with Arizona State Forestry Division fire restrictions already in place statewide.
BASIS Buffel Bandits

Today, Alamo Wash Park was "adopted" by the BASIS Buffel Bandits. Students from BASIS have been cleaning up Alamo Wash and other locations around town of both trash and invasive buffel grass. I was proud to see the kids congratulated for helping our community.
Water Line Work

Water line work will affect traffic on Pantano Rd. and Waverly St. Beginning at 9 p.m., Friday, May 16, and continuing until 6 a.m., Saturday, May 17, southbound traffic lanes on Pantano Rd. will be closed at Waverly St. because of water line work. The affected area is between Pima St. and Wrightstown Rd. Southbound traffic on Pantano Rd. will be diverted to one of its northbound lanes. Pantano Rd. will also be reduced to one lane for northbound traffic in the area. Motorists are asked to exercise additional caution to help ensure the safety of the workers.
Street Bond Program Update

On Wednesday, April 30, 2014 crews from Southern Arizona Paving and Construction Co, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin crack sealing Golf Links Road from Craycroft Road to Aviation Parkway. The work will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The crack sealing work on Golf Links Road is scheduled to be complete on Friday, May 2, 2014.
During this work, travel lane restrictions will be in place, however at least two lanes of travel will be maintained in both directions.

Case Park Tree Inventory

The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department is partnering with the University of Arizona's School of Natural Resources and the Environment and Gridley Middle School to perform a tree inventory of Case Park. Representatives from the Parks and Recreation Department and the University will give in-class presentations to a class of fifth graders on the importance of urban forests, how trees contribute to communities and how inventories aid in keeping trees healthy.
