Water Valve Work Scheduled for Southbound Wilmot Rd., 5th St. to Broadway

Installation of water valves will close the southbound center and right curb lanes of Wilmot Rd. from 5th St. to Broadway from 9 a.m., Tuesday, May 5, to 3:30 p.m., Friday, May 8.
Lane closures will take place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Steel plates will be temporarily installed to allow through traffic when work is not occurring.
New valves will be installed on a 12” water main line. The project includes excavation, valve installation, and repaving. There will be no interruption of water service to customers.
Pima Animal Care Center collaborating on free vaccination clinic Saturday

A dog-only free vaccination clinic will be held from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Ward 5 Council Office, 4300 S. Park Ave. The event will be first-come, first-served for the first 200 dogs.
Pima Animal Care Center, along with the Animal Welfare Alliance of Southern Arizona and the Humane Society of the United States, is participating in this collaborative effort to increase vaccination rates throughout Tucson. Vaccines for rabies, Parvovirus and distemper will be offered at no cost through a generous grant from the Humane Society of the United States.

Broadway: Camino Seco to Houghton

Broadway: Camino Seco to Houghton project was moved up on the RTA schedule.
The Broadway widening project from Camino Seco to Houghton Road is in Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) Third Period (2017 to 2021) with plans to widen the roadway to a four-lane roadway with bicycle lanes and sidewalks.
The section of Broadway between Camino Seco and Harrison is in the poorer pavement condition of the two sections. The Ward 2 office is keenly aware of the condition of this stretch of Broadway and we have had several conversations on addressing this section.

Grant Road Repaving

On Thursday, April 23, 2015 and Friday, April 24, 2015, crews from Granite Construction Co., under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation, will mill (remove asphalt) and repave Grant Road from Santa Rita Avenue to Campbell Avenue. Work hours will be 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. One travel lane in each direction will be maintained during this work.

Tucson Clean and Beautiful seeking volunteers

Tucson Clean and Beautiful is seeking community volunteers to adopt parks, streets, washes, and other available public areas on an ongoing basis. There are over 700 sites available for adoption.
What does “adopt” mean? Your group agrees to clean ‘your’ site up (remove litter and debris) once a month. We provide supplies such as litter grabbers, gloves and bags.
Who can adopt? Groups of at least five individuals commit to monthly cleanups.A permanent sign recognizing your group will be placed at the adopted site and we will celebrate your first six months with a ceremony.

As temperatures rise, so does community support

Local non-profit launches collaborative "Be Cool, Tucson" program and invites community support to repair evaporative coolers for neighbors at risk in the summer heat.
It was 107 degrees outside on June 14, 2014, when the evaporative cooler on Mary’s trailer finally gave up for good. Mary and her husband, Steve, bought this trailer after years of experiencing homelessness; if the heat drives them out of this trailer, they’ll be homeless once again. As the temperature inside their home rose, Mary called CHRPA.
22nd street – Wilmot to Swan Road Resurfacing Project

On Wednesday, April 1, 2015, crews from Southern Arizona Paving and Construction Co., under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin work to improve the pavement conditions on 22nd Street from Wilmot Road to Swan Road.
Crews will begin the project by lowering manhole covers and water valve covers on 22nd Street from Wilmot Road to Craycroft Road. Work hours
will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The utility work is scheduled to be complete by Friday, April 3, 2015.
