The monsoon claimed a life Monday morning after the vehicle of an adult female was swept downstream after being stuck in a residential wash, with the female trapped inside.   The initial Tucson Fire unit arrived at East Calle Betelgeux and South Avenida Ursa for reports of a car in the wash at 9:31 A.M..  They initially could not see a vehicle in the residential.  A bystander pulled up next to them and advised them that the car was pinned against a pedestrian bridge completely submerged.  The crew immediately began getting equipment for a rescue when the car was pushed under the bridge and

Starting Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, Pima County Regional Flood Control District and its contractor, Clear Contracting Company, will begin construction of the Pantano Wash Project: Broadway Boulevard to Kenyon Drive.

The pathway is designated a major pathway for development of The Loop. The Loop is a system of more than 100 miles of shared-use paths designed to link Tucson with Marana, Oro Valley and South Tucson.

Sun Tran officials and representatives from Teamsters Local 104 have announced a tentative agreement on a new contract.  Both sides have agreed to extend the current contract until 11:59 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2014, to allow the members the opportunity to vote on the final contract proposal. The public can expect business as usual through August 7. The current contract extension was to expire at midnight Wednesday night.

A series of meeting will be held for union members to vote on Thursday, August 7, 2014.

Sun Tran officials and representatives from Teamsters Local 104 have agreed to extend the current labor contract until 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2014, to allow negotiations to continue. Buses will run as scheduled through the contract extension date. The current contract was to expire at midnight Thursday, July 31.

“Negotiations will continue this week and we are hopeful an agreement can be reached prior to the expiration of the contract extension,” said Sun Tran General Manager Kate Riley. “The public can expect business as usual through August 6.”

I took a tour with some east side leaders of the Streetcar Maintenance Facility just off of Fourth Avenue. It was a good sneak preview for all of us. The SunLink Steetcar will be ready for passengers on July 25th.

The Lunar and Planetary Laboratory is hosting a free public open house, Everything Lunar: Celebrating the Past, Exploring the Future, on Sunday, July 20, the 45th anniversary of the Apollo Moon landing, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm in the Kuiper Space Sciences Building, 1629 E. Effective Thursday, June 5, the Bureau of Land Management Gila District, all districts of the Coronado National Forest, Saguaro National Park, Casa Grande Ruins National Monument, Coronado National Memorial, Chiricahua National Monument, Fort Bowie National Historic Site, Tumacácori National Historical Park, and Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument will increase campfire and smoking restrictions in southeastern Arizona, consistent with Arizona State Forestry Division fire restrictions already in place statewide.
