The Ashton Company Inc., under contract to the Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), is nearing completion of the Kino Parkway and 22nd Street Intersection Improvement Project, and this weekend crews will begin shifting traffic to install the new traffic signals on 22nd Street and restripe the roadway. During this work, left turns in all directions at the Kino Parkway and 22nd Street intersection will not be allowed.
Beginning at 7 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2014 through approximately 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 16, 2014 the following travel patterns will be in place:
Both northbound and southbound Kino Parkway through traffic will be shifted from the current detour to the new bridge. The bridge will have two lanes in each direction and the traffic will be continuous over the bridge with no traffic signal. Motorists traveling northbound on Kino Parkway exiting to 22nd Street will use the new off ramps, but must make a right turn onto eastbound 22nd Street. Motorist wanting to travel westbound on 22nd Street from northbound Kino Parkway must exit Kino Parkway and travel eastbound on 22nd Street to the Union Pacific Railroad slip ramp, head north on Campbell Avenue and then west to Cherry Avenue to 22nd Street.
Motorists traveling southbound on Kino Parkway exiting to 22nd Street will use the new off ramps, but must make a right turn onto westbound 22nd Street. Motorists wanting to travel eastbound on 22nd Street from southbound Kino Parkway must cross 22nd Street and turn eastbound on Silverlake Road and travel northbound on Cherrybell Stravenue to 22nd Street.
Eastbound and westbound 22nd Street will have two lanes in each direction and traffic will be controlled by the new signal at the new bridge. No left turns will be allowed. Motorists traveling westbound on 22nd Street and wanting to travel northbound on Kino Parkway can use the new on-ramp. Motorists wanting to travel southbound on Kino Parkway from westbound 22nd Street will be required to travel through the intersection and turn left on southbound Park Avenue and then left on eastbound Silverlake Road to Kino Parkway. Motorists traveling eastbound on 22nd Street and wanting to travel northbound or southbound on Kino Parkway must travel through the intersection and can either turn right on Cherrybell Stravenue to travel south to connect to Kino Parkway via Silverlake Road or continue east to the UPRR Bridge slip ramp to Campbell Avenue. Once on Campbell Avenue, drivers may find their way to 22nd Street to travel west by way of Cherry Avenue. Drivers may use Cherrybelle Stravenue to travel south and reconnect with Kino Parkway via 29th Street. Drivers are encouraged to use both Silverlake Road and Park Avenue also as available detours in advance of the bridge. Again these detour routes will be in effect from 7 a.m. Saturday through 7 p.m. Sunday.
