Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (10-3-1, 10-3-1 in ACCAC conference) suffered its worst defeat of the season last week at Phoenix College but the Aztecs came back and responded by upsetting No. 11 Glendale Community College 3-0 on Tuesday at the Kino North Grandstand.
The No. 15Aztecs are 6-0-1 on their home field this season and handed Glendale just their second loss of the season (11-2-1). Pima also avenged its 3-1 loss at Glendale last month.
Emilio Villatoro (Tucson Magnet HS) got the Aztecs on the board in the first half when he scored on a shot from the left side of the net in the 33rd minute. Pima led 1-0 at the break.
Arturo Vega (Salpointe Catholic HS) hit a left-footed shot in front of the net with a tip-pass assist from Christian Garcia-Cabello (Salpointe Catholic HS) in the 51st minute. Robert Gorman (Nogales HS) added an insurance goal for the Aztecs with his header that found the back of the net in the 76th minute. Garrett Andreatta (Canyon del Oro HS) set up Gorman with his throw-in from the corner.
The Aztecs finished with seven shots on goal and Sam Kavathas (Flowing Wells HS) finished with three saves.
The Aztecs will play at Chandler-Gilbert Community College on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
