48 HOUR MASH FREE SPAY/NEUTER CLINIC A SUCCESS
MORE THAN 1,100 CATS AND DOGS SERVICED
TUCSON - The 48 Hour MASH Free Spay/Neuter Clinic held October 9 through 11, at Los Ranchitos Elementary School was a huge success!
A total of 424 dogs and 376 cats were spayed and neutered and another 350 were scheduled for free spay, neuter and vaccinations at a future time.
The goal for the event was 500 animals.
The Fifth Annual Vamos a Tucson Mexican Baseball Fiesta presented by Cox takes place at a new venue – Hi Corbett Field from October 1 – 4. This year’s teams include four of the top teams from the Mexican Winter League – the Naranjeros de Hermosillo, Yaquis de Obregon, Cañeros de Los Mochis, Aguilas de Mexicali as well as some the best young players in baseball – the D-backs and Reds Future Stars. SS Dansby Swanson, the #1 pick in the 2015 June Draft, is on the travelling roster.
The City of Tucson and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) are celebrating the completion of the Kino Parkway – 22nd Street Intersection Improvement Project on Friday, October 2, at 9 a.m. at the southwest corner of Kino Parkway and 22nd Street.
The City of Tucson is offering the business community a Tax Amnesty Program. This rare opportunity will allow Tucson business owners to submit delinquent sales tax or license fees without penalty and with reduced interest due on delinquent balances. This is also an opportunity for Tucson businesses that are not licensed to get licensed, without penalty. The amnesty period will run for two months, Sept. 1, 2015 - Oct. 30, 2015.
Each year the United States honors the contributions that Latinos have made to our great country with Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15 till October 15. The annual, month long celebration began 26 years ago. Congress had first passed a resolution to celebrate Hispanic Heritage at the national level, as a week long event on September 17, 1968. Nearly 20 years later, on August 17, 1988, President Ronald Reagan expanded the celebration to a month.
In 2007, Tucson’s Mayor and Council approved a program to help cut down the number of auto accidents, injuries and fatalities at the City’s eight most dangerous intersections.
This program had photo cameras placed at these intersections to deal with speed and running red lights.
The Mayor and Council received updates on the program, which showed a reduction of accidents, injuries and fatalities. In July, I had requested that the Mayor and Council receive a report on this program.

resident. Presenters will include members of the
Citizen Committees who worked to get these issues
on the November ballot.
The Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) drop-off site at Los Reales Landfill will be closed on Saturday, August 29, 2015. It will re-open on Monday, August 31st at the new entrance facility at the intersection of Los Reales Road and Craycroft Road.
The new entrance includes a new scalehouse, administration building, and drop-off facility for HHW and recyclables. For more information, call ES Customer Service at 791-3171.
