Here is the Summary of Current Events Councilmember Richard Fimbres reported on during the February 7, May and Council meeting:

More than fifty people turned out Thursday, January 26, for the Water Harvesting Dedication and Tree Naming Ceremony at the Ward 5 office.

Four trees were planted in the courtyard at the Ward 5 office in honor of the four living individuals who serve and have served as the Ward 5 Councilmember: Rudy Castro, Roy Laos, Steve Leal and Richard Fimbres.

Lin’s Grand Buffett had its formal grand opening on January 13.  Lin’s is located at the Bridges in Ward 5.

I want to thank the more than 400 who turned out for the opening, which included Councilmember Shirley Scott and her staff.

Eighty local people were hired at Lin’s.  I want to congratulate Frank Lam of Lin’s and the Manager, Juan Rivera for a successful grand opening of Lin’s in Ward 5.

TUCSON – With temperatures falling and a widespread freeze expected Sunday, the Office of U.S. Representative Martha McSally has taken action to expedite the delivery of blankets to Tucson. The 10,000 blankets are being delivered through the Homeless Blanket Program, a congressionally funded program administered by the Department of Defense. The blankets were originally not scheduled to arrive in Tucson until middle to late January.

I along with the staff at the Ward 5 Council office want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.

The Ward 5 office will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, November 24.

The office will also be closed on Friday, November 25.

TUCSON – U.S. Rep. Mark Meadows of North Carolina, the Chair of the House Subcommittee overseeing the Postal Service, toured the Cherrybell Post Office and Processing Center and took part in a roundtable meeting of stakeholders at the Tucson’s Ward 5 Council Office.

Rep. Meadows was invited to Tucson by U.S. Rep. Martha McSally (AZ- CD 2), who has worked closely with Ward 5 Councilmember Richard Fimbres, for which the Cherrybell Post Office and Processing Center is located in his Ward.
