Celebrating Cesar Chavez’s Legacy

As the League of United Latin American Citizens, Council 1057 kicked off the Cesar Chavez Holiday weekend by hosting their 26th Annual Youth Leadership Conference at Pima Community College's West Campus we must not forget the legacy left by him such as his determination to improve the quality of life for all.
The Ward 5 Council Office will be closed Monday, March 30 observing the Cesar Chavez Holiday. The Ward 5 office will be open Tuesday, March 31.
Great News, U.S. Rep. Martha McSally (Arizona CD-2) has joined us to fight to keep our Postal Distribution Center open. Cong. Raul Grijalva and Cong. Ann Kirkpatrick also signed on to this bipartisan letter. What follows is the news release.
Mayor Rothschild announced today that the City Council unanimously selected Cochise County Administrator Michael Ortega as our new City Manager. A final contract will be presented at the April 7 Mayor and Council Meeting, with an anticipated start date in June. Mr. Ortega's resume, as well as recordings of the Public Forum and the City Manager Appointment Advisory Committee Meeting, are available at https://www.tucsonaz.gov/home/announcement/city-manager-candidates.
The Ward 5 Council Office is hosting a shred-a-thon Saturday, March 14, 8 am to 1130 at the Ward 5 Council Office, located at 4300 S. Park.
Collections for the Community Food Bank will also be expected.
I want to congratulate two members of the Ward 5 staff, Melinda Jacobs and Heileen Evans, who
were nominated for the 2015 Pima County Tucson Women’s Commission, Women in Government
Awards. The Pima County/Tucson Women's Commission recognizes the outstanding work of
women in public service at its annual Women in Government Awards Celebration. Congratulations
Melinda and Heileen for being recognized for your work and commitment to public service.
The ceremony takes place Friday, March 13 at the TCC.
The Mayor and Council of the City of Tucson have scheduled a Community Forum on Tuesday,
March 10, 2015 at 7:30 P.M. The purpose of the forum is to allow members of the public the
opportunity meet the candidates for City Manager and to ask questions relevant to the position.
