Project Description

The 100-Acre Wood Bike Park represents 20+ years of dreaming, planning and collaboration among the City of Tucson, Pima County, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona State Parks and the bike community including: the Sonoran Desert Mountain Bicyclists (SDMB), The Trek Foundation and countless community members who have invested in the vision of an accessible urban bike park that provides safe but challenging trails and features for riders of all ages and skill levels. The renovated bike park will include a diversity of new trails and technical features for riders of all skill levels.

What’s the latest?

Parks and Recreation is finalizing construction documents and working its way through permitting for the 100-Acre Wood Bike Park. The City team is coordinating closely across departments and with external service providers to continue to provide outreach in preparation for pre-construction activities commencing on site in mid-November.

Next Steps

Parks and Recreation anticipates that construction will commence in December 2025 and run through Spring 2026.

Community Engagement & Project History

Parks and Recreation hosted a virtual public meeting on January 30, 2025, to introduce the project and update the community about outreach efforts underway with the City’s Housing First team. About 95 community members attended and shared their thoughts. If you weren’t able to make it, no worries! A recording of the meeting is posted below, along with Facts and Questions (FAQs) that were developed based on input received from the community.

Following the meeting, Parks and Recreation circulated an online survey from Jan. 30- Feb. 20, 2025, to learn more about community hopes and desires for this upcoming phase of improvements. 298 community members participated in the survey, and the results are posted at the link below.

The team used the preferences shared by the community to develop a new concept plan for the site and posted it to the project webpage (see below) with a video walk-through and a second online survey that circulated from May 3-May 25, 2025. 163 community members participated in the second online survey to provide feedback on the design and share preferences on what they’d most like to see built.

We learned that riders are most interested in flow, jump, and technical trails. We also received excellent feedback about signage and specific feature requests, and heard that participants are generally supportive of the project and concept design, but want to make sure the park is fully cleaned up, encampments are addressed, and that the City works hard to keep things clean, welcoming, and safe post-construction.

The full results of the survey can be viewed by following the link below.
