Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

 


The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was established in 1990 to ensure inclusive and equal opportunity for persons with disabilities in all aspects of American life. The ADA prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability and provides for equal access to programs, services and activities.

The ADA prohibits discrimination:

  • In employment (Title I)
  • In the provision of state and local government programs, services, and benefits (Title II)
  • By private businesses and other entities that operate places of "public accommodation." (Title III)

Submit an ADA Complaint

You can help the City identify barriers to accessibility in its facilities and/or programs/services for persons with disabilities such as:

Inside Facility

Restrooms, doors, counters, paths of travel, elevators, and drinking fountains;

Outside Facility

Ramps, slopes, curb cuts, sidewalks, parking, paths of travel, and handrails;

Programs/Services/Activities

Service animals, classes, meetings, voting, payments, and KIDCO.

To submit an ADA complaint

Complete the ADA Accessibility Complaint Form, call (520) 791-4593 / TTY (520) 791-2639, or email ADA1@tucsonaz.gov.

To submit a Discrimination Complaint

If you feel you have been discriminated against by an employer, organization, institution, or business entity within the City of Tucson city limits you may contact OEOP at (520) 791-4593 or  or complete a Chapter 17 Discrimination Complaint Form.
