Applications Open for 29th Street Thrive Action Activities

The City of Tucson’s Housing and Community Development (HCD) department invites community organizations to apply for funding to implement Action Activities in the 29th Street Thrive Zone. Selected awardees will conceive and implement the projects, with final approval by the Tucson Mayor & Council. A total of $1.3 million will be awarded.

Volunteers & Vendors Needed for Hope in Park Homeless Resource Fair

Hope in the Park is a one-day, one-stop resource gathering for unsheltered individuals to be held Friday, Nov. 7, at Rudy Garcia Park, 5001 S. Nogales Highway, from 9 AM to 2 PM. The Multi-Disciplinary Outreach Team (MDOT), a component of the City of Tucson’s Housing First Division, is sponsoring and organizing Hope in the Park.

City of Tucson Celebrates Transformation of Amazon Motel

The City of Tucson’s Amazon Motel is the first of two phases that will create 89 units of affordable housing in Ward 3. Amazon Motel will provide permanent supportive housing for individuals experiencing homelessness in 30 refurbished studio apartments. Amazon Motel is the first of two developments on the property.

City of Tucson Breaks Ground for 66 Affordable Housing Apartments

Tucson Mayor Regina Romero and HCD Director Ann Chanecka celebrated the official launch of a new affordable housing development in the Thrive in the 05 area. Project is being developed by the City's nonprofit entity, El Pueblo Housing Development and co-developer Gorman and Company.

City of Tucson Receives State Award for New Modern Affordable Housing

The Arizona Department of Housing awarded El Pueblo Housing Development, the City of Tucson’s non-profit development entity, the Urban Development of the Year Housing Hero Award for Milagro on Oracle. The 63-unit affordable housing complex, located in the Thrive in the 05, is EPHD’s first development and the City’s first Low-Income Housing Tax Credit project in over a decade.

No Residents Injured in Monday Night’s Tucson House Fire

Published on August 05, 2025

Tucson Fire Department (TFD) crews were dispatched to Tucson House at 1501 N. Oracle Rd., shortly after 8 p.m. Monday night to suppress a fire on a 13th-floor balcony. TFD’s quick response prevented the fire from spreading to other apartments.
There were no reported injuries.

TPCH Launch Strategic Plan Survey to Rank Draft Goals

TPCH Drafting 5-year Strategic Plan

City of Tucson Responds to Need of Housing Job Corps Youth

In June, the City of Tucson’s Housing and Community Development Department (HCD) acted quickly to support youth at risk of homelessness following the announced closure of the Fred G. Acosta Job Corps Center. HCD teams collaborated to provide stable housing for 12 young people, offering furnished apartments and essential amenities, including a two-bedroom unit for a mother and her child.

TPCH Releases 2025 Point-in-Time Count Data Summary Report

The annual Homeless Point-in-Time (PIT) Count provides a snapshot of households experiencing homelessness on a single night. This year’s event was conducted in Pima County on January 29, 2025. This survey was supported by the efforts of more than 400 volunteers from the community, government agencies, and partnering non-profits.

Request for Release of Funds for Esquer Park Improvements

Construction of the dog parks and park improvements will be conducted in the north and central areas of the existing park. No disturbance to the southern portion of the existing built-up park area is proposed. City Successfully Competes for $2.5M in LIHTC Funding from the State

On Monday, June 2, the Arizona Department of Housing (ADOH) announced that the City of Tucson successfully competed to receive $2.5 million in LIHTC credits that will result in approximately $20 million in private investment to build 59 new apartments in the second phase of Amazon Flats on West Miracle Mile.

City of Tucson Celebrates Amazon Flats Groundbreaking

The City of Tucson’s Housing and Community Development Department (HCD) will held a groundbreaking ceremony at Amazon Flats, transforming the former Amazon Motel into permanent supportive housing units for very low-income households. When the City operated the motel as a shelter for 15 months, 140 people found temporary housing and 86 of those individuals moved into permanent housing.

City and County Receive Grant to Reduce Affordable Housing Barriers

The City of Tucson and Pima County received a highly competitive $7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to reduce regulatory and financing barriers to producing and preserving affordable housing in the region. This grant will advance regional policy goals of reducing poverty over the long term. Eighteen grants were awarded nationwide.
