Beginning Wednesday, May 27, 2026, crews from Borderland Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM), will begin paving the bottom lift of asphalt in the northbound lane of Park Avenue, from 22nd Street to 36th Street. At 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2026, traffic will shift onto the new asphalt as crews begin work in the southbound lanes. No southbound travel will be permitted on Park Avenue, between 22nd Street to 36th Street, to allow for pavement and waterline removal followed by bottom lift paving. This work is scheduled to take place until late July and requires the closure of the southbound lane for the safety of the traveling public and the construction crew. This schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances. Once this work is complete, the top lift of asphalt will be added to the north- and southbound lanes of Park Avenue, from 18th Street to 36th Street. The construction on Park Avenue is on track to be complete in October 2026. We ask the community to please use caution when approaching a work zone; reduce your speed, watch for roadwork signs and crews working, leave extra space between you and the vehicle ahead, and avoid distractions. The work taking place on South Park Avenue is possible through voter-approved Proposition 101 – Tucson Delivers: Better Streets, collecting approximately $100 million for arterial roadway improvements. As part of Proposition 101, voters approved specific major streets to be improved, while the 2012 Bond Oversight Commission selected the local roads to be improved. Since approval, 638 arterial lane miles and 225 local lane miles have been improved with Proposition 101 funding.
