Gray Water Systems Grants and Loans

In partnership with Sonora Environmental Research Institute, Tucson Water offers gray water system grants and loans for qualifying customers to install a permanent irrigation gray water system in their homes. Sonora Environmental Research Institute will screen customers and coordinate installation of system on behalf of Tucson Water.

Program Details

Customers may qualify for a grant and/or loans to help them install a permanent gray water irrigation system in their property. 

Grants

  • Families with an income equal to or less than 100% of the Federal Income Poverty Guidelines will receive a grant of up to $500. 
  • Families with an income between 100% and 200% of the Federal Income Poverty Guidelines will receive a grant of up to $350.

Loans

Zero-interest loans are to help pay for the cost of the system and available for all qualifying families. Loans are up to $500 and 12 month payment plans are available. SERI will also help customers apply for the Tucson Water Rebate of up to $1,000. Note that permits will be required to modify drainage plumbing/piping from any fixture. A permit will not be required to  use a pre-existing gravity stub-out from the washing machine.

Eligibility

Tucson Water single-family residential customers that meet the criteria below can apply for this program.

  • Meet the 2025 Federal Low-income Poverty Guidelines at 200% or below
  • Homeowner
  • Renters of single-family dwelling with signed letter of agreement from landlord
  • Mobile Home Park customers eligible if mobile home is owned
  • Must take a Gray Water Harvesting / Laundry-to-Landscape workshop before installation of system
