Christopher Franklin Carroll

Christopher Franklin Carroll, a downtown preservationist, developer, and fourth-generation resident of the El Presidio neighborhood, passed away on July 8, 2013. In his professional life, Chris was a Distinguished Professor of English and a Chaucer scholar at the University of Arizona where he taught an array of literature, from the classics to the contemporary. In his personal life, he was a lifelong, ardent advocate of historic preservation in the El Presidio neighborhood and downtown Tucson, who for decades made major contributions to our community and its citizens through his work on downtown boards, advisory groups, the El Presidio Neighborhood Association council, and other forms of service to the City. His tireless devotion of time and effort to numerous downtown preservation projects included the creation of Centennial Park, which now bears his name.
