Captain Tom McNamara

Tom was beyond elated when he received the call to inform him that he was #1 on the list, and his call to duty with TFD would begin on 12/3/1979! His much loved career spanned 30 years and included Firefighter, Captain, Training Captain, Technical Rescue and EC. Tom also enjoyed teaching Fire Science classes at PCC and was a Certified Driver Training Instructor. 

Tom was passionate about the fire service and loved sharing that passion with others. He was highly respected and valued as a team member, leader, teacher and mentor. 

Captain McNamara (Thomas, Tom, Tommy, Mac) retired from TFD in January, 2010. 

Tom's initial cancer diagnosis was made in March, 2017. It was successfully treated (or so we thought) until it reared its ugly head in December, 2019. Tom fought the fight with everything he had, but the monster would not be quelled. Tom's cause of death was determined to be primary lung cancer due to his years of exposure while serving the community he loved during his 30 year career with TFD.
