Heat Protection Ordinance

On June 4, 2024, the City of Tucson’s Mayor and Council adopted Ordinance 12100, also known as the City’s Heat Protection Ordinance for City Contractors. This ordinance created policy for City contractors whose employees or subcontractors work outdoors or in non-climate-controlled environments. Contractors and their subcontractors performing work under a City of Tucson contract are required to have a Heat Safety Plan that incorporates specific elements to protect workers from heat-related hazards. This ordinance, which applies to City contractors and their subcontractors, mirrors a new City administrative directive, which applies to City workers. 

These requirements are currently being incorporated into all new City contracts, and will be amended into all existing City contracts over the course of calendar year 2025.
