We invite the public to attend an upcoming meeting to receive an update on the remediation of the former Flint Oil Site and ask questions.
Representatives from the City of Tucson, and Terracon Consultants will be present to share the latest progress.
January 6-24 2025
Drilling and soil sampling work begins. During drilling, the contractor will conduct air and vibration monitoring and employ dust and storm water control measures.

Soil Sampling-Tuesday, September 17, 2024
In response to community concerns, Terracon will be sampling the soil in the alleyway, East of the Flint Oil Site on Tuesday, September 17. The soil will be analyzed for the contaminants of concern found on the Flint Oil property.
We are currently preparing responses to the public comments received during both the public meeting and the comment period for the work plan. Soil remediation efforts on the Flint Oil property are being scheduled and will take place in the near future.
Public Comment Period on Work Plan- Monday, August 12 to Thursday, September 12 2024
The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) has received the work plan for the Former Flint Oil VRP site. The work plan proposes an incremental sampling approach for soil characterization and soil remediation by excavation, if necessary. The work plan was submitted in accordance with Arizona Revised Statutes (A.R.S.) § 49-175 and § 176.
The Former Flint Oil VRP site consists of a former bulk oil storage facility located at an address historically known as 500 West Simpson Street in Tucson, Arizona. Contaminants of concern at the site are arsenic, lead and benzo(a)pyrene.
The work plan was made available online on Monday, August 12 at: azdeq.gov/notices, and at the ADEQ Records Center.
Parties were invited to submit comments regarding the remedial work plan for the Former Flint Oil VRP site to ADEQ from Monday, August 12 to Thursday, September 12, 2024.

Residents attended a Flint Oil Meeting on Thursday, June 20 at Santa Rosa Center. Representatives from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Voluntary Remediation Program, Pima County Health Department and Terracon Consultants Inc. were in attendance. City of Tucson Environmental and General Services presented the work plan and addressed questions for the clean up of the Flint Oil Site.
