The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation invited the public to participate in a community conversation conducted by the Center for Community Mediation and Facilitation exploring ways the City can support local food distribution efforts to improve food access for community members experiencing food insecurity while also addressing neighborhood and food safety concerns. The dialogue is part of an ongoing effort to engage the community in an authentic and inclusive conversation about food distribution challenges and opportunities.
The Center for Community Mediation and Facilitation (centercmf.org) is a community-based nonprofit that creates spaces for respectful and civil conversations as a way to transform conflict into connection and partnership. CCMF has served Tucson for more than 45 years.
There were two opportunities to join the dialogue, a virtual meeting held on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 and an in-person meeting held Saturday, March 8, 2025.
The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation department issues free Food and Beverage Distribution Permits to regulate food distribution activities in city parks, ensuring neighborhood safety and efficient resource allocation. These permits are authorized under Tucson City Code 21-4 and are designed to avoid overburdening specific parks. Permits are only issued for select parks and during designated timeframes. Organizations must complete a training program covering food safety, clean-up expectations, and available community services. Permits are not required on holidays like Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, or for water distribution on any day.
Currently permits are available for the following parks:
