Rugby Rodeo Brings Free Community Event to Estevan Park May 9

Tucson residents of all ages are invited to experience rugby firsthand at the Rugby Rodeo, set for Saturday, May 9, from 8 to 10 a.m. at Estevan Park, 1001 N. Main Ave. The free community event, hosted by Vice Mayor Lane Santa Cruz and the City of Tucson in partnership with six local rugby organizations, will feature live rugby demonstrations, skill-building drill stations, and instruction on the basics of the game. Families can also participate in community planning discussions to shape future improvements at Estevan Park. Additional activities include team merchandise sales, raffle tickets for the Jim Click Millions for Tucson Raffle, and a food truck serving breakfast burritos. No prior experience is required.

Estevan de Dorantes

Estevan de Dorantes was an enslaved person who was the first non-native person to set foot in what is Arizona today.  He was an explorer with the Narváez, Cabeza de Vaca, and de Niza expeditions in the 1500s and had a great ability to communicate with indigenous peoples.
