Swim Lessons
Classes will be viewable online on Friday, April 17. Due to the limited space available in each session and class, a registration waitlist will be maintained. Cost is $15/session.
Students will be asked to register in one of two categories – StarBabies or Starfish Swim Lessons
Session 1: June 1-June 12
Registration begins: Monday, May 18, at 8 a.m. for residents, 10 a.m. for non-residents
Session 2: June 15-26 (Classes will not be held on Friday, June 19 – City holiday)

Session 3: June 29-July 10
Registration begins: Monday, June 1, at 8 a.m. for residents, 10 a.m. for non-residents
Session 4: July 13-24

StarBabies (ages 6 months-3 years old)
Introduces infants and toddlers to the water in a fun and loving environment. Parents or caregivers are taught effective techniques to teach their infants and toddlers how to float, submerge, move in the water, and roll over to breathe. Classes incorporate songs, activities, and water safety education. Swim diapers are required. Due to the limited space available in each session and class, a class registration waitlist will be maintained.
Starfish Swim Lessons (ages 3-17 years old)
Learn to Swim Lessons focusing on self-rescue and safety around water skills, for children learning to swim, as well as those developing more advanced stroke skills. Students will be placed into the appropriate benchmark level based on their ability. Due to the limited space available in each session and class, a class registration waitlist will be maintained.
Starfish Swim School Benchmarks for completion of the level
- White Star Benchmark 1: Easily can submerge entire face and body
- Red Star Benchmark 2: Independent floating on front and back. Can roll onto back and float to breathe
- Yellow Star Benchmark 3: Can self-rescue by performing the swim, roll, swim method
- Blue Star Benchmark 4: Can swim with forward movement with good side glide body position and proper flutter kick
- Green Star Benchmark 5: Can perform front stroke with 1, 2, 3 breathing pattern with face in the water, overarm action, and strong flutter kick
Starfish Stroke School Benchmarks for Completion of Level
- White Star Benchmark 6: Can easily demonstrate fundamentally sound freestyle and backstroke
- Red Star Benchmark 7: Can easily demonstrate fundamentally sound elementary backstroke and sidestroke
- Yellow Star Benchmark 8: Can easily demonstrate a fundamentally sound butterfly
- Blue Star Benchmark 9: Can easily demonstrate a fundamentally sound breaststroke
