Thompson Pool is located in Doris J. Thompson Park.

Thompson Pool is a three-pool complex. It features a diving bay with 1 and 3-meter boards, wading pool, 25-meter splash pool with a 132-foot long water slide, depths ranging from 3-5 feet, and a shaded area.

Pool Rules

  • Observe all safety regulations.
  • Safety/rescue equipment is for EMERGENCY USE ONLY.
  • No glass allowed in pool area.
  • Dispose of trash properly.
  • No running, pushing, or boisterous play in pool area.
  • No swimming during lightning storms.
  • No pets allowed in pool area.
  • Persons with cuts, infections, or communicable disease should NOT use the pool.
  • Suntan oils and lotions should be removed prior to using the pool.
  • Use showers and restrooms prior to entering pool.
  • Diving is allowed in designated areas ONLY.
  • Guests in street clothes must observe from the designated area.
  • Appropriate swimwear is required.
  • Food, drinks, and smoking in designated areas only.
  • All swimmers not toilet trained are required at all times to wear the following: a disposable swim diaper, plastic pants to cover the diaper, and a swimsuit.
  • No children under 7 years of age will be admitted to the pool area, unless accompanied by an adult 18 years or older.

General Rules

  • Patrons must obey the lifeguards at all times.
  • Behaviors that endanger or distract other swimmers such as pushing, running, dunking, riding of shoulders or back, or various forms of horseplay are not allowed.
  • Patrons may not visit with lifeguards on duty.
  • Food and drink (other than water in plastic containers) are not allowed in the pool area.
  • Smoking, tobacco products, and gum chewing are not allowed at pool facilities.
  • Masks, fins, and snorkels may be used only by adults in the lap lanes or in an organized and supervised class or program. Persons requiring such equipment because of a disability may do so with the approval of the Pool Supervisor.
  • All flotation devices must be Coast Guard-approved (USCG on tag). Such devices may be worn only by non-swimmers actively supervised by and adult on a one-to-one basis. Specialized non-Coast Guard-approved flotation devices may be worn during instructor-led fitness and adaptive classes.
  • All patrons are required to leave the pool area when lightning is in the area. Refunds will not be given for inclement weather.
  • Lewd or abusive behavior will not be tolerated.

 

Diving Board Rules

  • Diving board users must be able to swim to the ladder unassisted.
  • Only one person is allowed on the diving apparatus (including ladder) at a time.
  • Divers must dive straight from the front end of the board. No back or inward dives allowed during recreational swim.
  • Divers may not spring more than once on the board.
  • Upon surfacing, immediately swim to the nearest ladder. Do not swim toward or under the boards at any time.
  • A diver must wait until the preceding diver has surfaced and reached the ladder.
  • No general swimming is permitted in the diving area, unless the diving boards are closed by pool staff.
  • Life jackets, goggles, or sunglasses may not be worn while diving.

Waterslide Rules

  • All riders must be at least 42" tall.
  • Maximum rider weight is 300 pounds.
  • Non-swimmers are not permitted.
  • All riders must ride feet first while lying on their back with arms crossed across their chest. Do not go down the slide head first. Do not sit up while riding the slide.
  • Riders must enter the slide in a sitting position and wait for instructions from the lifeguard stationed at the slide starter tub.
  • Do not propel yourself into the ride.
  • Only one rider at a time. Absolutely no trains or chains of riders are permitted.
  • No running, standing, kneeling, rotating, tumbling, or stopping in the flume. Arms and hands must remain inside the flume at all times. Riders should remain in proper riding position until forward movement is terminated. At no time should the rider attempt to stand up while on the slide or before coming to a complete stop in the splash-out area.
  • No tubes, mats, or life jackets are permitted on the waterslide.
  • No combs or foreign objects are allowed in pockets and no jewelry can be worn while riding the slide. No cut-off jeans or swimwear with exposed zippers, buckles, rivets, or metal ornamentation; only approved swimsuits are allowed.
  • The line should form on the deck with one rider on each landing and one rider in the starter tub. Wait until the landing area is clear before entering.
  • Riders must be in good health. Elderly persons, those suffering from heart disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy, or persons using prescription medication should consult their physician before using this slide. Individuals with medical conditions including, but not limited to, pregnancy, heart, or back problems should not ride.
  • Do not use the slide while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • No diving from the slide.
  • Leave the plunge pool/run-out area promptly after entering.
  • Rider assumes all risk of injury due to misuse of the slide or failure to follow rules.
