Tucson's Mayor and City Council have unanimously approved Plan Tucson 2025, setting the stage for voters to decide the city's development blueprint for the next decade this November.
The approval comes after a two-year long public engagement process that culminated in a May 20 public hearing where residents weighed in on everything from housing policies to environmental protections. During that meeting, council members postponed their vote to allow city staff to incorporate final revisions based on community feedback.
When council reconvened June 3, staff presented the updated draft with requested changes and one additional policy provision. The unanimous approval sends the comprehensive planning document to the November 2025 ballot for final ratification by Tucson voters.
Plan Tucson 2025 will serve as the city's new General Plan, guiding land use, development, and policy decisions across Tucson for the coming decade if approved by voters in November. The document represents the culmination of extensive community outreach and input from residents citywide.
With council approval secured, the Plan Tucson team will now launch a voter education campaign to help residents understand what's at stake when they head to the polls. The outreach effort aims to ensure voters know how their decision, whether supporting or opposing the plan, will shape Tucson's future growth and development priorities for the next 20 years.
