Silverbell Road - Congress Street to St. Mary's Road Roadway Project
Published on January 11, 2024
On Monday, January 15, 2024, Borderland Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM), is scheduled to begin a roadway improvement project on Silverbell Road from Congress Street to St. Mary’s Road, as part of the Proposition 101 - Tucson Delivers Better Streets Program.
Crews are scheduled to begin this project by locating underground utility lines along Silverbell Road throughout the project limits. During this work there will be lane restrictions shifting vehicles around the work area. This work is anticipated to take about a week.
Following the investigative utility work, crews will begin a full water line replacement throughout the project limits. The water line is located on the east side of the roadway and will be replaced starting from the southern end of the project at Congress Street working north.
Following the water line replacement, which is anticipated to take approximately four months, crews will begin the roadway improvements. Crews will install ADA compliant ramps where necessary, mill (remove) the old asphalt, replace the subgrade and repave with new asphalt.
Throughout the project, one lane of travel will be maintained in each direction.
This work will take place Monday through Friday from about 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. The project is scheduled to be completed by December 2024. Electronic message boards are in place ahead of the project to alert motorists of this upcoming work. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.
