5-YEAR COLLECTOR STREET PROGRAM
ROADWAY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

ELM STREET – CAMPBELL AVENUE TO TUCSON BOULEVARD
AND
TUCSON BOULEVARD – SIXTH STREET TO GRANT ROAD

On Monday, August 19, 2024, Southern Arizona Paving, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM), is scheduled to begin two roadway improvement projects on Elm Street from Campbell Avenue to Tucson Boulevard and Tucson Boulevard from Sixth Street to Grant Road, as part of the Tucson Mayor and Council approved 5-Year Collector Street Program.

Crews are scheduled to begin this project with the installation of ADA compliant ramps throughout the project limits.

In late-September, crews will begin the roadway improvements on Elm Street from Campbell Avenue to Tucson Boulevard. Crews will lower manhole covers and water valve covers, mill (remove) the top layer of asphalt and repave with new asphalt.

During the milling and paving on Elm Street, one-way travel will be maintained. Additionally, residential and business access will be maintained throughout the project.

In early November, crews are scheduled to begin the roadway improvements on Tucson Boulevard from Sixth Street to Grant Road. Crews will lower manhole covers and water valve covers, mill (remove) the top layer of asphalt and repave with new asphalt.

During the work on Tucson Boulevard, one travel lane in each direction will be maintained as well as access to residential and business driveways.

This project will not include improvements to the Speedway Boulevard and Tucson Boulevard intersection.

Crews will work Monday through Friday from about 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The project is scheduled to be completed in December 2024.

Electronic message boards will be in place ahead of the project to alert motorists of this upcoming work. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.

In June 2022, the Tucson Mayor and Council voted and approved $15 million per year for 5 years to preserve and improve selected collector streets in the City of Tucson. This collector street improvement project was selected by the Independent Oversight and Accountability Commission (IOAC) as part of the 5-Year Collector Street Program, which is funded annually with $11 million from the Highway User Revenue Fund (HURF) and $4 million from the City of Tucson General Fund. Thank you in advance for your cooperation as we work to improve the quality and safety of your city streets.
